Batavia was a return or retour ship, better known in English as an East Indiaman. These vessels were employed by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) for the trade of goods and spices between the Netherlands and her colonies. Famed for having been shipwrecked on her maiden voyage in 1628/29 as documented by captain Francisco Pelsaert: ‘Unfortunate Voyage of the ship Batavia’.

This model has been built to a scale of 1:72 using the Lelystad replica as an example. Hull, rigging, decks, 3D ornaments etc. are all based on the original at the Batavia wharf. The kit contains laser-cut keel and frames, full (single) walnut planking, decks, masts and hand-cast and 3D printed ornaments. Sails are available as a separate kit, containing fabric, plans, instructions, extra thread, blocks and belaying pins.

Dimensions of the model when built: length approx. 37.4" or 95 cm, width approx. 13.7" or 35 cm, height approx. 31.5" or 80 cm.
PLEASE NOTE: The model has a simple stand and comes without sails by default. A luxurious oak stand and a full Batavia sail kit can be ordered separately.
